Overview

Hotbench after Kofler for melting point determination and quick identification of organic substances (e.g. pharmaceuticals). Since the specimen lie openly on Surface of the Hotbench, a series of other temperature depending characteristics of the substance - as eutectic temperature or degree of purity - can be determined.

With the Leica VM Hotbench determination of a melting point is completed within a minute. This remarkable saving of time compared with other methods, the precision and simple operation are the advantages of the Hotbench.
The Hotbench consists of a corrosion-free metal body in which a temperature slope is produced by unilateral electrical heating.
Temperatures can be observed on a scale from 50°C to 260°C divided into 2°C. A sliding runner along the scale with adjustable pointer allows for compensation of the ambient temperature.
With every Hotbench a set of test substances with melting points of: 68°C, 95°C, 114.5°C, 134.5°C, 163°C, 191°C, 210°C and 228°C is supplied. With careful work, the probable error will not exceed 1°C.
